Hydration in cold climates

Did you know that your hydration needs aren’t much different in winter compared to summer? Of course, we sweat more in hot climates but we also lose more water through urination and respiration in a cold environment.

Furthermore, in winter we feel less thirsty and tend to drink way less than our bodies require. This results in a decrease in blood volume and chances are higher that your body undercools.

On average, men require 3.5 liters of water and women about 2.7 liters of water per day (note: food contributes about 20% of the recommended daily liquid intake, and even tea, coffee, and that occasional soda counts towards your daily fluid intake).


How to stay hydrated in winter


Keep your fluids liquid

If you exercise in really cold weather, make sure your drinks do not freeze.
